Guy Wins the Mile at Jimmy Carnes Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Graduate student Alex Guy of the Florida Southern College men's track team picked up his first win of the season in the very first race of the year. The Keystone Heights, Fla. native raced past the field to pick up his second career indoor victory after winning the mile at last season's Celebration Pointe Indoor Classic. The Moccasins also saw action in the 3,000m later in the afternoon.

TOP PERFORMERS
  • Graduate student Alex Guy led the FSC contingent in the mile as all five FSC runners finished in the top-eight. Guy took home the victory in 4:17.61, marking the fifth-best time in program history. Sophomore Anthony Matthew finished one spot back as he was edged by just two-hundredths of a second at 4:17.63. Matthew's time ranks as the sixth-best time in program history. Freshman Dylan Bailey picked up a top-five finish in his first collegiate race as he crossed the line in 4:26.07 to take fifth overall. Bailey's time also ranks as the 10th-fastest in program history. Freshmen Cole Summers and Timothy Schultz finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Summers crossed the line in 4:28.00 while Schultz finished just behind at 4:28.10.
  • Matthew led the way in the 3,000m as he took 12th overall, the top collegiate finisher not part of Florida State's program. Matthew completed the distance in 8:43.84, ranking as the third-best mark in program history. Sophomore Karl van Gelder finished just behind Matthew as he crossed the line in 8:50.29 to take 13th overall. The mark ranks as the eighth best time in the FSC record book. Two spots behind van Gelder was the next FSC duo as juniors Aiden Redmond and Seth Augustynowski placed 16th and 17th, respectively. Redmond turned in a time of 8:52.22 while Augustynowski stopped the clock at 8:55.00. Redmond's time ranks as the 10th best in program history. Summers and sophomore Caleb Brady represented the next FSC duo as the pair finished 19th and 20th, respectively. Summers clocked in at 8:56.08 while Brady crossed the line in 8:56.39.
  • Four additional Mocs finished outside the top-20 in the 3,000m as sophomore Luke Kaelin just missed out on a top-20 finish as he took 22nd at 8:58.16. The final three Mocs finished back-to-back-to-back as freshman Connor Brooks (9:11.87), freshman Cameron Raney (9:19.73) and senior Luke Dickinson (9:21.54) finished 26th, 27th and 28th, respectively.

The Moccasins will be back in action in Gainesville Jan. 19-20 to compete in the RADD Sports College Invitational.
