Strong Start for Men's Track at ERAU Running Elements Classic

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Florida Southern College men's track team opened action at the ERAU Running Elements Classic Friday afternoon. The Moccasins competed in a trio of events with a total of nine top-10 finishes including a podium finish in the 5,000m.

Mid-Distance  
Sophomore Eli Zuppa led the 1,500m group as he placed fifth overall after completing the distance in 3:54.30. Junior Michael Toppi was next across for FSC as he finished two spots back in seventh at 3:54.94. Just on his heels was junior Cole Summers who took eighth after stopping the clock at 3:55.87. Senior Chris Colavita and sophomore Daniel Welling finished back-to-back in 14th and 15th, respectively. Colavita clocked in at 3:57.50 while Welling came across just under a second later at 3:58.45. The final Moccasin on the track was sophomore Andrew Nyland who claimed 24th. Nyland was able to complete the race in 4:04.09.

Senior Caleb Brady led the way in the 3,000m steeplechase as seven Moccasins all finished inside the top-12. Brady claimed fourth as he just missed the podium with a time of 9:43.41. Junior Dillon Mantei, freshman Parker Graham, and junior Cameron Raney finished back-to-back-to-back as they claimed sixth through eighth. Mantei crossed the line in 9:47.67 while Graham came across just two seconds later at 9:49.98. Raney rounded out the group at 9:58.06. Junior Declan Ziomek, sophomore Tyler Gaines and freshman Skyler Jensen represented the second Moccasin trio to go back-to-back-to-back as they claimed 10th through 12th, Ziomek stopped the clock at 10:06.77 while Gaines came across in 10:08.01 followed by Jensen in 10:10.56.

Freshman Jack Girard earned a podium finished in the 5,000m as he led a trio of Moccasins in the event. The rookie crossed the finish in 15:06.66. Sophomore Joshua White claimed 35th as he turned in a time of 16:42.12 while junior Nathan Holmes came in 11 spots back in 46th at 17:35.02.
