DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's tennis team completed its 2024 fall tournament schedule with the ERAU Invite, hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at the Crotty Tennis Complex over the weekend.
Â
"The last two weekends have been invaluable match play to see where the guys are now, and where they need to be in three months," said head coach
Rhett Rollyson. "We look very solid at the top of the lineup and have a lot of parity towards the bottom. It will be competitive to see how it all plays out once we start the spring season."
Â
The Moccasins competed over three days against tough competition. Embry-Riddle hosted FSC, Eastern Florida State College, Eckerd, and Warner over the three-day tournament. Overall, the Mocs went 20-12 in singles, with six of those losses in match tiebreak. In doubles, FSC went 13-9.
Â
On the first day of competition, Florida Southern had a great showing, going 11-0 in singles for all of their flights.
Chris Fok Kow, Mario Garoz, Sam Frizelle, Onur Turgut, Matthew Hewitt, Bosko Boskovic, Edoardo Melindo, Gabriel Jornert, Hunter Nussbaum, Reese Hilsen, and
Leon Bircanin all won their flights, with all but one coming in two sets. For doubles on the first day, Fok Kow and Garoz won 6-1, as did Turgut and Hewitt (6-1), and Nussbaum and Jornert (6-4).
Â
Over the rest of the weekend, Garoz highlighted the Mocs with a 3-0 singles record, as did Jornert. All but two of the FSC lineup finished the three days with at least two wins in singles, a great cast of matchups to preface the spring season. In doubles, the pairing of Hewitt and Turgut finished 4-0, with Jornert and Nussbaum 3-0 on the weekend.
Ryan Rajakar and Frizelle teamed for a 3-1 record as Fok Kow and Garoz finished 2-2.
Â
The Mocs will await the 2025 spring schedule and an opportunity to repeat last season's NCAA regional appearance.
