DADE CITY, Fla. – The No. 10 Florida Southern College men's golf team is seventh overall through one round at the Saint Leo Invitational on Monday afternoon at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club. The Mocs ended day one of the invitational with a 290 (+2) team score after one round with round two suspended with two holes left due to darkness. FSC's
Max Barile and
Donte Groppuso are in the top 25 among 108 golfers.
Barile leads all Moccasins after round one with a 71 (-1) score that was good for a tie of 16
th among the field. The redshirt sophomore scored four birdies in the first 18 holes, with one bogey and a solo double bogey for his -1 score to par. Barile opened the invitational with a bogey but quickly rebounded to stay one under for most of the round.
Groppuso had a great even-par first round with two bogeys and two birdies for the 72 scorecard. The junior golfer had his first birdie in his second hole of the day and had a +1 back half of the course to end even par and tied for 21
st on the leaderboard.
Other Moccasin golfers in round one included
Tyler Mistretta who shot a 73 (+1) in the first round. After a few early bogeys, Mistretta birdied four of his last six holes to recover with a one-over score and tied for 28
th overall.
Adam Alvarez shot a 74 (+2) for his first round and tied for 45
th overall.
Max Watson rounded out the FSC golfers with a 77 (+5) in round one for a tie for 73
rd.
Saint Leo leads the field after round one with a 277 (-11) score, ahead of Keiser University with a 280 (-8) score, and Barry University with a 282 (-6) score as the top three teams of the invitational.

No. 10 Florida Southern will return to play tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 8:30 a.m. to finish the Saint Leo Invitational. The final two holes of round two with the third and final round to be played immediately after, all at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.
