LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's tennis team rebounded after a doubles point loss to beat the University of Findlay 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
Â
The Mocs (3-2, 1-1 SSC) had a nail-biting doubles competition but quickly responded with four court wins in singles to win the match and stay undefeated at home. The Oilers (1-6) outlasted FSC on the #3 doubles court but were unable to stop the Moccasins in singles in the loss. Two courts went unfinished with the match clinched.
Â
The pairing of
George Russell and
Ryan Rajakar had a big 6-4 win after being behind for the early points.
Chris Fok Kow and
Mario Garoz teamed up for the #1 court and battled for each of their four points in a 6-4 loss. Court #3 decided the doubles point with an exciting back-and-forth flight.
Bosko Boskovic and
Matthew Hewitt went into a tiebreak, but their rally fell just short in a 7-6 (7-5) point to Findlay.
Â
Florida Southern recovered in singles, beginning with Fok Kow's 6-2, 6-0 win at #2 court.
Elliott Altman took on the #6 court and had a big 6-3, 6-1 win himself, followed by Garoz with back-to-back 6-3, 6-3 sets. The match win went to Hewitt in his first collegiate singles flight win in spring from a 7-5, 6-1 score. Courts 1 and 4 went unfinished with the match clinched to FSC. Russell had his court in a third set, as did
Inaki Braun Simo in the unfinished flights.
Â
The Mocs have a quick turnaround with a match against No. 15 Washburn University tomorrow, Feb. 26, set for a 3 p.m. start at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
