#10 Moccasins Sink Six Eagles on Day 1 of the Battle at the Shores

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – As a collective group of six players, No. 10 Florida Southern men's golf led the field of 16 teams with six eagles over the first 36 holes at the Battle of the Shores at Normandy Shores Golf Club. The Moccasins saw Colton Swartz drain three eagles himself while Max Barile made two and Adam Alvarez one.
 
No. 10 Florida Southern finished the day in sixth place out of the 16-team field with a team score of 565 (-3). The Mocs shot an even-par 284 for round one and went under-par for round two at 283 (-3). No. 32 Barry University, the host of the Battle at the Shores, is having a tournament of the year at 14-under 554 following rounds of 274 (-10) and 280 (-4). Nova Southeastern's Jorge Berea is leading the player field at eight-under 134.
 
Adam Alvarez led the team Monday with a two-under 140 after posting back-to-back rounds of 70 on the par-71 6,733-yard course. The Winter Haven, Fla. native used his lone eagle of the day on the par-5 18th to get one under for the round. After finishing the front nine of round two at two-over, Alvarez posted six pars and three birdies to finish the second round at one-under to hold in 18th place of the 93-player field.
 
Tyler Mistretta opened with a two-over for the day before rallying with a two-under 69 for his second round to finish at even-par 143. His 69 tied the team low for round two of the tournament thus far.
 
Colton Swartz, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 34th with Max Barile as the duo shot a 143 (+1) for the first round. Swartz carded three eagles over the 36 holes Monday where he eagled hole three twice, in rounds one and two while adding an eagle on the most eagle hole of the day, the par-5 18th. Swartz used rounds of 70 and 73 to comprise his 143 total. Barile fired off the team-low of the day with a 68 in the first round while he shot a 75 in round two to make up his 143 total. He registered two eagles on the day both in round one, where he too joined Swartz with an eagle on the third and Alvarez, Swartz, and the 11 total eagles on the 18th.
 
Donte Groppuso and Max Watson rounded out the Moccasins in the field of 93. Groppuso is tied for 50th heading into Tuesday while Watson is tied for 54th. Groppuso opened with a 76 before going low with a 69 to comprise his 145 (+3) score as Watson shot back-to-back 73s for his 146 (+4).
 
No. 10 Florida Southern and the rest of the field look to complete the Battle at the Shores Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
