BOCA RATON, Fla. – The 2024 Sunshine State Conference Men's Golf Championship opened Sunday at the Osprey Point Golf Club in Boca Raton, Fla. where No. 9/13 Florida Southern sits in sixth place after an opening round 284 (-4).
Max Barile and
Tyler Mistretta led the Moccasins after the first 18, posting a two-under 70 score.
Max Barile and
Tyler Mistretta both carded a two-under 70 to lead the Mocs and are in 12
th place overall. Mistretta was second on the team in total pars with 12 during Sunday's round where he also carded four birdies. Barile was tied for third on the team with 11 pars and led the team with five birdies, which sits tied for fifth overall in the field.
Donte Groppuso is tied for 21
st in his SSC Championship debut with a one-under 71. Groppuso is the team leader with 13 pars over the opening 18 holes.
Adam Alvarez fired a one-over 73 in his fourth appearance in the league's championships. Alvarez tied with Barile with 11 pars.
Max Watson rounded out the Moccasins in the 50-player field in 49
th place at eight-over 80.
No. 25/29 Barry holds a one-stroke lead over RV/No. 54 Rollins after a blazing opening round, 275 (-13). The Tars are close behind at 276 (-12). No. 51 Palm Beach Atlantic and RV/No. 42 Lynn are tied for third at 282 (-6), ahead of No. 8/11 Nova Southeastern in fifth place at 283 (-5). The Buccaneers' Albin Ekvall and Miikka Makinen are tied for the lead on the individual leaderboard after firing off 67's (-7).
The field returns to action Monday for the second round of the Sunshine State Conference Championships with the earliest tee time of 8:00 a.m. The Mocs hit the links with
