#9/13 Mocs in the Hunt for SSC Championship After Monday's Round

BOCA RATON, Fla. - No. 9/13 Florida Southern men's golf sits four strokes off the lead at the 2024 Sunshine State Conference Championships, after a second round 282 (-6) for a 36-hole score of 566 (-10) on the par-72 Raven/Falcon course at Osprey Point Golf Club. 

Four of five Mocs in the field are in the top-20 of the 50-player field with Tyler Mistretta leading the way in 10th place. The redshirt sophomore carded his second straight 70 (-2) to move up two spots on the leaderboard after sinking 12 pars and four birdies over Monday's 18 holes. 

Max Barile continues to be in the top two on the team and tallied a second-straight under-par score with a 71 (-1) Monday to sit tied for 16th at 141 (-3). Adam Alvarez jumped 10 spots after firing off a team-low 69 (-3) to climb inside the top-20 at 142 (-2) to head into Tuesday in 18th place. The Winter Haven, Fla. native birdied his final three holes to get under-par for the round. 

Donte Groppuso joins the trio of Mistretta, Barile, and Alvarez in the top 20 in 19th place at 143 (-1) after shooting an even-par 72. Max Watson battled his way up two spots and sits tied for 47th at 154 (+10). Watson carded a second round 74 (+2). 

Michael Hay (NSU) holds a three-stroke lead on the field at 133 (-11) after another blazing round of 67 (-5). Three teams sit tied for first after 36 holes of action at 562 (-14) in No. 11/12 Saint Leo, No. 8/11 Nova Southeastern, and RV/No. 42 Lynn. The Lions shot the best round of the day of 278 (-10) to move into first, besting the Sharks 279 (-9), and the Fighting Knights' 280 (-9). No. 25/29 Barry and RV/No. 54 Rollins round out the top five teams at 563 (-13) and 564 (-12), respectively. No. 9/13 Florida Southern is in sixth place at 566 (-10) after another under par round of 282 (-6). 

The third and final round starts Tuesday at 8 a.m. as No. 9/13 Florida Southern hits the links at 9:20 a.m. with Max Watson (+10). Donte Groppuso follows at 9:28 (-1), Adam Alvarez at 9:36 (-2), Max Barile at 9:44 (-3), while Tyler Mistretta closes at 9:52 (-3).
