Mocs Fall to #5 Knights in Conference Matchup

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern women's tennis team faced off against #5 Lynn University at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center in Lakeland Saturday afternoon, leaving the court with a 5-2 loss.
 
Florida Southern (6-9, 1-5 SSC) lost the extra point from the doubles with Lynn (13-2) taking two out of the three doubles matches. They then went into the singles before finally falling 5-2.
 
Starting in the doubles, duo Laia Pasini and Neli Sunjic took a 6-4 win on the No.2 court against the Fighting Knights. In the No.3 match, Ronja Scheuermann and Jolie Miller teamed up again and played a close match before eventually falling 4-6. All eyes turned to the first court, where #26 duo Kennedi Brown and Kelly Klaren played an intense match against their Lynn opponents before the win finally slipped through their fingers during a tiebreaker set for a 6-7 defeat. Lynn took the extra first point from the duos having won two out of the three matchups.
 
Going into the singles, the match on flight court two where Beatriz Costa fell to #26 Greta Schieroni. No.4 finished second with Scheurmann dominating her opponent in a 6-4, 6-1 court win. Court No.1 saw #24 Laia Pasini fall 4-6, 2-6 to the top-ranked Salma Djourbri. Kennedi Brown faced a tough second set on court no.5  before triumphing over her Lynn opponent, taking the court win 6-2, 7-5. On the No.3 court, #71 Olivia Bryant fell 3-6, 4-6 against the #26 ranked Knight, Deniza Marcinkevica. Lastly, in No.6, Kelly Klaren took it to the third set before falling for a final 6-3, 1-6, 0-1. 
 
The women's tennis team will return to the courts on April 9 as they honor two seniors before the final home game in another conference game, going up against Eckerd College at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center with the first serve scheduled for 3 p.m.
