WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – The 2023-24 Florida Southern College athletics season is officially over as Florida Southern's
Tyler Mistretta completed his final round of the 2024 NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championships at the Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge.
Â
Mistretta represented Florida Southern as the sole Moccasin participating in the NCAA Division II Festival, hosted by Rollins College and Greater Orlando Sports Commission. The North Palm Beach, Fla. native carded a 75 (+4) for his final round and 221 (+8) through the three championship rounds, tied for 70th among the field.Â
Â
"Tyler hit the ball tee to green excellent all week," said head coach
Lee White '12. "It was a great experience to play in a national championship as a sophomore and I look forward for him to pick up this fall where he left off. This was a great learning experience for him and hopefully, we will be back with out team next year for the 2025 NCAA National Championships at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens."
Â
After five straight pars to open the final round, Mistretta bogeyed two of the final four holes (both par 3's) for a 37 (+2) front nine. The sophomore had just one bogey over the next four holes, the most difficult stretch of the course, though a fourth bogey on the day at 16 led to the 38 (+2) back nine for the 75 (+4) last round.
Â
In his first national championship appearance, Mistretta entered as a PING All-South Region team winner and had previously carded a +1 score and 15
th overall at the NCAA National Preview at OCN during the fall tournament schedule. The men's golf team was just short of a team invite to the NCAA finals after a great 2023-24 season highlighted by four team tournament wins, the most in program history.
Â
Wyatt Provence from West Texas A&M won the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Individual Championship with a 201 (-12) final score. West Florida leads the teams with a -14 team score through three rounds. The Argos will join Oklahoma Christian, Central Oklahoma, Coker University, North Georgia, Colorado Christian, Wingate, and West Texas A&M in Match Play to determine a team national champion.
