Being named a "guard to watch" by Wayne Cavadi adds a national spotlight to Gomes' season and to the Moccasins' program. It reinforces the expectation that Gomes will play a prominent role in FSC's backcourt strategy this season. It offers exposure not only for her individual profile but for Florida Southern as a rising program in Division II women's basketball.
Cavadi's feature highlights each of these players as vital returning guards expected to shape the 2025-26 season through their scoring, defense, and leadership.
After three seasons with the Mocs, Gomes took a commanding step forward last year, averaging 15.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game — all career highs — while leading Florida Southern with 44 steals. She also led all of Division II in triple-doubles, recording two in the span of a week, including a 19-12-10 performance against Palm Beach Atlantic and an 11-10-10 line versus Mount Olive.
As the Moccasins prepare for the 2025-26 season, Gomes' leadership and experience will be central to Florida Southern's push within the Sunshine State Conference and the national Division II landscape.
