ORLANDO, Fla. -
Sydney Gomes, a senior from Ponte Vedra, Fla., and a member of the Florida Southern College women's basketball team, has been named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week for the first SSC women's basketball weekly honors.
Gomes delivered an impressive offensive performance this weekend. In game one, she battled through a tough shooting night, going 2-10 from the field, but refused to let it slow her down, showcasing her offensive maturity by attacking the rim and finished a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line to lead the Mocs in scoring. Less than 24 hours later, she responded with a statement performance, bouncing back for a career-high 31 points, shooting 12 for 24 from the field and knocking down three 3's to power Florida Southern to victory over UAH. Her resiliency and ability to elevate her offensive output within less than a day had proven her scoring abilities early on in the season
This marks her second career Player of the Week honor in her career, earning her first back on November 25, 2024, with a triple-double against PBA, and finished the week with 38 points (19 ppg), 18 rebounds (9 rbg), 13 assists, and two steals in 68 minutes of action. Gomes shot 40% from the field, 36% from beyond the arc, and 76% from the free-throw line.
Gomes and the rest of the Mocs will host Colorado Christian for its home opener on November 20 in Jenkins Field House. The tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
