Reed Destroys Program Record at GVSU Holiday Open to Open Indoor Season

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Junior Grace Reed of the Florida Southern College women's track team opened the 2025-26 Indoor Track season for the Moccasins as she competed at the GVSU Holiday Open hosted by Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. Reed competed in the third heat of the 5,000m and won her race while shaving nearly 15 seconds off the program record previously held by Emma Mussante (2022-25).

The Fort Pierce, Fla. native won her heat by nearly four seconds as she crossed the finish line in 17:25.34. She just out-paced Amarissa Kerns of Rio Grande who placed second in 17:29.25. Mussante's record of 17:40.06 which was set back in February of 2024 lasted just under two years before Reed claimed the top spot. Reed also holds the FSC freshman record in the event as well which now ranks as the third-fastest time in program history.

Reed and the rest of the Moccasins will open up the 2026 portion of their schedule Thursday, Jan. 15 at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational.
