MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 4 Florida Southern College baseball team swept the Saturday doubleheader to win the series against Florida Tech at the Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field this afternoon.

The Moccasins (11-2, 2-1 SSC) won the first game by a 9-3 score to open the two-game afternoon. The Panthers (8-8, 1-3 SSC) could not rally in the final innings of the series finale to lose 7-4 with a 2-1 series win for the Mocs.

Grant Thoroman had a big day for the Mocs, with three hits in game one and another two hits in game two of the day. He finished with five RBI on the day, including two extra-base hits, plus four stolen bases. In game one,
Jevin Relaford had a big day, including a three-run homer, to finish with two hits and three stolen bases. Other Moccasins with hits in game one included
Cory Filley, Cleary Simpson, Wyatt Campbell, Jack Duffy, Rohsean Riley, and
Ahmad Fitts. In game two,
Mikey Scott, Noah Rabin, Chris McKenna, and
Adrian Davis added hits to the mix.
Brandon Jung had the win in the first game of the day, his first of the season, with a save given to
BJ Rivera. In the series finale,
Wyatt Clark was credited with the win.

Florida Tech had multi-hit games by Fimiano and Burke in game two of the day and two hits from Patrick in the first game to lead the Panthers. Losses on the pitching side when to Lenzen and Beck.

GAME 1: FLORIDA SOUTHERN 9, FLORIDA TECH 3
The first game of action opened with two runs by the Panthers in the second inning, though the Mocs responded with an RBI single in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to one run. The Mocs took the lead in the sixth inning after a two-RBI double by Filley for a 3-2 lead. Thoroman singled in the eighth to bring in two runs and take a 5-2 lead into the final frame. In the ninth inning, FSC scored another four runs, led by an RBI single by Campbell and a three-run homer by Relaford, leading 9-2 to the bottom of the ninth. Tech added a single run in the bottom half, though lost 9-3 to the Mocs.

GAME 2: FLORIDA SOUTHERN 7, FLORIDA TECH 4
The Mocs dominated the scoring in the first five innings of the game, notching a 6-0 lead into the bottom fifth. FSC had a two-RBI double by Thoroman in the first and a sacrifice fly by Rabin to go up 3-0 early. Campbell then had an RBI single in the fourth, Thoroman an RBI single in the fifth, and an RBI triple by Riley to take the 6-0 lead. Tech managed single runs in the fifth and sixth inning, 6-2, but Florida Southern added a seventh run off a Thoroman sac fly in the seventh. FT added another two runs in the seventh and ninth, but the Mocs held on for the 7-4 win to take the series.

The Mocs will return to Lakeland for their SSC home opener on Friday, Feb. 28, hosting Barry University at 6 p.m. at Henley Field.
