Gomes First Time Being Named to the All-SSC Team

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Sydney Gomes, from Florida Southern College women's basketball team, has been named to the All-SSC Second Team, the Sunshine State Conference announced on Wednesday, March 5.

"I am beyond proud of Sydney for earning this honor," stated head coach Megan Dzikas '12. "This award is a true reflection of her incredible work ethic, dedication, and determination. A testament to the countless hours she's put in and the passion she brings to the game and the team. She is truly deserving of this honor, and I couldn't be happier for her."

Gomes, a native of Ponte Vedra, Fla., earns All-SSC honors for the first time, being named to the second team following an exceptional year averaging 15.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

The 5-8 guard earned SSC player of the week honors during the year with a triple-double, scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists against Palm Beach Atlantic on Nov. 23.

Against Maryville during the annual Mocs Christmas Classic, Gomes hit a career-high of 25 points, surpassing her career-high 17 points in the previous season. The junior also dished out a career-high of 10 assists against Mount Olive, where she hit her second triple-double of the season with 11 points, 10 boards, and 10 assists.

A vital member of the Mocs, Gomes saw action in 26 games, making 26 starts and averaging 35.5 minutes, 15.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. On top of her two triple-doubles, she also recorded three double-doubles in the season. In the final home game of the season, Gomes played a career-high 45 minutes against Saint Leo and ended the year with 411 points, 169 rebounds, 128 assists, 99 made free throws, 44 steals, and nine blocks in 922 minutes of action.

Alongside her performance on the court, she has been named to the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll since her freshman year and was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District during the 2023-24 season.
All-conference selections and individual award winners are determined by a vote of Sunshine State Conference head coaches with oversight and approval from member institution athletic directors.
