WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - #16 Florida Southern College women's tennis fell in the semifinal to #1 Barry University 4-1 after winning the doubles point in the Sunshine State Conference tournament on Saturday afternoon in West Palm Beach at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
In doubles action, the Moccasins (16-6) earned the early point with a clinch win as #26 doubles pair of
Kennedi Brown and
Kelly Klaren defeated #9, 6-1. The next court to finish was the No. 3 court as
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller secured the doubles point with a 6-3.
In singles action the first point went to Barry as the Bucs #19 Andrea Di Palmoa defeated
Ronja Scheuermann 6-2 in both sets at the third court. With the match tied 1-1, the Mocs tried to rally but Barry claimed the next three court wins. The Mocs fell to court five with
Emily Jennewein falling 6-4, 6-2 followed by #10 Viktoriia Dema winning the No. 2 court over
Beatriz Costa 6-2, 6-3. The final match to finish was Berrendorf falling to #38 Dinara Alloiarova 6-4, 6-0.
The season ends on a historic note as the Moccasins defeated Lynn University in the quarterfinals for the first time in program history. Along with the win, FSC also upset Embry-Riddle during the regular season with a 4-3 final and went on an 11-match win streak early in the season. Florida Southern ended the season ranked in the top 20 in the ITA polls as well as
Olivia Bryant sitting at #7 in singles and Brown and Klaren moving up to #26 in the latest poll.
