LAKELAND, Fla. - The No.33 Florida Southern College women's tennis team hosted No.5 Barry University on Saturday morning falling in Sunshine State Conference action, 5-2 at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.

The Moccasins (12-4, 3-4 SSC) earned the early point in doubles play against the Buccaneers (15-1, 6-0 SSC) winning two of the three doubles matches. The top doubles spot of
Kelly Klaren and
Kennedi Brown fell 6-4 to No.38 Ailen Crespo and Andrewa Di Palma. The following two doubles matches both forced tiebreakers as
Emily Jennewein and
Ronja Scheuermann defeated No. 46 Viktoriia Dema and Maria Tatarnikova 7-6 (8-6). To seal the doubles point was the third court as
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller won over the Bucs three doubles pair 7-6 (7-5) to give the Mocs a 1-0 lead.  Â

In singles action, Barry tied the match 1-1 winning the #3 singles spot with Scheuermann falling to No.17 Di Palma, 6-1, 6-2. #2 singles between No.21 Dema and
Beatriz Costa gave the Bucs a 2-1 lead as Dema won 6-4, 6-2. The top singles spot No.33
Olivia Bryant upset No. 3 Alina Michalitsch winning 6-3, 7-5 to tie the game up once against 2-2. With three singles matches left to play, it was Barry who dominated the courts winning the remaining three to secure a 5-2 win in SSC action. The Buc win did not come without a fight as all three of the remaining courts battled in either a tiebreaker or forcing three sets.

Jennewein at the #5 singles slot forced the tiebreaker over No.46 Angela Leweurs, falling 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. Klaren followed at the #6 court with a three-set match winning the first set 6-3, and forcing a tie in the second 7-6 (7-3) before falling 6-3 in the third set. The last Moc to finish was Berrendorf facing off against No. 54 Dinara Alloiarova falling three, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.Â

Florida Southern returns to action Wednesday, April 9, traveling to face another top 5 SSC opponent in #4 Embry-Riddle. The first serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
