ORLANDO, Fla. - Florida Southern College soccer swept the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week awards, with both programs earning recognition between the posts. On the men's side, senior goalkeeper
Lasse Dettmer collected his first career weekly honor. At the same time, women's keeper
Carly Brodsky was also named Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
Lasse Dettmer anchored Florida Southern's back line with his third consecutive shutout of the season and the sixth clean sheet of his career. In the Mocs' 3-0 victory at Christian Brothers, Dettmer recorded five saves across 90 minutes, keeping the Bucs off the board and securing the program's first 3-0-1 start since 2018. Dettmer's consistency in goal has been pivotal to the Moccasins' unbeaten start, leading the Sunshine State Conference with his shutout streak.
Carly Brodsky secured two shutouts last week, including a win over No. 18 Columbus State on Friday night. The redshirt junior from Parkland, Fla., helped the Mocs to a 2-0 week, shutting out CSU 1-0 and GCSU 3-0. Brodsky faced 20 shots by the Cougars, finishing the contest with a career-high seven saves to secure the shutout. She then followed with another clean sheet against the Bobcats, finishing with three saves on six shots faced, for her third shutout of the season.
Dettmer and the men's soccer team have a quick turnaround and return action tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 16, as they travel to take on Flagler, while the women and men both open SSC play this weekend with Lynn University. Women host the Fighting Knights on Berend field, while the men travel to face the top team in the United Soccer Coaches Association.Â
