PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Florida Southern College women's soccer team (0-0-1, 0-0-0 SSC) opened the 2025 season with a 2-2 tie against Point Park University (0-0-1, 0-0-0 MEC) Thursday night at Highmark Stadium, with both teams scoring once in each half.
The first half began with a strong offensive push from Florida Southern, despite rainy conditions, as
Jasmin Adames and
Sammie Markey each attempted shots within the first three minutes. Despite consistent pressure from the visitors, including a saved attempt by
Alison Jenkins at 10:53, it was
Rilee Hasegawa who broke the deadlock with a penalty kick goal at the 30th minute. However, the Pioneers responded swiftly, equalizing with a goal by Maya Figueroa in the 35th minute, assisted by Martina Cardemil and Rebecca Pihlgren, leaving the score level at 1-1 by the end of the half.
The second half began with a challenge for the visitors as Point Park capitalized on a penalty kick in the 49th minute to take an early lead. The lead nearly grew to a two-goal advantage, but a Point Park offside negated the third goal. To counter, the Mocs maintained their offensive pressure, with
Breena Harrigan leveling the score at 2-2 in the 69th minute, thanks to an assist from
Isabella Payne. The equalizer was the first collegiate goal for Harrigan and the first collegiate assist for Payne. The visitors continued to create opportunities, including multiple shots on goal by Hasegawa and
Aliya Roberts, but were ultimately unable to break the deadlock, concluding the half with a 2-2 draw.
