LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College women's cross country team picked up a second place finish in the Swan City Invitational at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Fla. The Mocs battled with Embry-Riddle and Palm Beach Atlantic for the second place finish behind winner Tampa. FSC finished with 55 points while the Spartans won the event with 34. Rounding out the top four were Embry-Riddle (67 pts.) and Palm Beach Atlantic (69 pts.).
Two addition Sunshine State Conference programs competed in the event including Saint Leo who took eighth and Eckerd which placed ninth.
Junior
Grace Reed led the way Saturday morning for the Mocs as she placed fourth overall after completing the 4K race in 14:26.3. Senior
Rachel Hockenberry was the only other top-10 finisher for the Mocs as she placed 10
th in 14:44.9. Sophomore
Alena Pezzoli finished just outside the top-10 in 11
th after completing the course in 14:49.9.
The final two scorers for the Mocs were junior
Emma Pfeiffer and sophomore
Nika Gividen. Pfeiffer finished 15
th overall while Gividen came in four spots back in 19
th. Pfeiffer stopped the clock at 14:58.0 while Gividen clocked in at 15:03.9. Freshman
Reagan Chambless just missed out on being a top-five scorer for the Mocs as she finished just behind Gividen in 20
th at 15:05.9.
A pair of freshmen were the next to cross the line for the Mocs as
Kara Simard and
Jane Haight went back-to-back in 33
rd and 34
th. The pair completed the distance in 15:26.9 and 15:29.3, respectively.
The Mocs will be back in action in just six days as they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. for the HOKA Nights of Thunder XC Fest.
