ORLANDO, Fla. - The Florida Southern women's golf team opened the season with a strong first round at the SSC Warm Up at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla. on Monday.
Senior,
Clare Gimpel, led the field with a 2-under first round of 70. Gimpel carded three birdies and 14 pars. Gimpel holds a one-stroke lead over three golfers tied for second after round one.
Taylor Zachary and
Ava La Belle both sit tied-ninth after round one with a score of 74 (+2). Zachary was even through the front nine and carded two birdies on the back nine. LaBelle was also even through the front nine with 16 pars on the day.
Kaley Amuso finished the first round tied-15th, with a score of 76 (+4). She carded one birdie on the front nine and 15 pars.
McKinley Holding and
Christina Nordlander sit tied-24th, each shooting a 6-over, 78. Holding birdied hole eight, while Nordlander, competing as an individual, carded two birdies on the day.
Individuals
McKinlee Proctor and
Susie Davis round out the Moccasin lineup, finishing the first round tied-30th and tied-35th, respectively.
As a team, Florida Southern sits in second place, one stroke off the leader Stetson, who finished round one with a +5 score of 293.
