PENSACOLA, Fla. — No. 6 Florida Southern College fell to the No. 14 University of West Florida 13-8 on Sunday at Jim Spooner Field to wrap up the opening weekend.

Florida Southern responded to an early two-run deficit with a productive second inning.
Cory Filley led off with a double and later scored on a throwing error.
Gavin Smith crossed the plate following an RBI double by
Amir Streeter.
Eli Thurmond extended the lead with a three-run homer to left field, propelling the Mocs to a 5-2 advantage.

The Argonauts narrowed the gap in the third, tallying three runs with the help of singles from Urias and Pettay, and a sacrifice fly by Stokes. The Moccasins still led 5-4 at the end of the frame.

In the fourth inning, UWF capitalized on defensive miscues to score four runs, including a two-run homer by Stokes, overtaking Florida Southern with an 8-5 lead.

FSC answered back in the fifth inning.
Ryan Jenkins and
Mikey Scott each singled, setting the stage for Filley's two-RBI double, followed by
Carson Brady's RBI single, leveling the score at 8-8.

UWF added a run in the fifth and then surged in the eighth with a two-run homer by Stokes and an RBI hit-by-pitch, securing a 13-8 lead. Despite efforts from the Moccasins, the Argos held firm in the final innings, concluding the game with a 13-8 victory.

Filley led the offensive charge with two doubles, two runs, and two RBIs, contributing significantly to the team's scoring efforts. Thurmond powered through with a home run, collecting three RBIs and scoring once. Streeter added depth by recording two hits, including a double, and securing an RBI while stealing a base. Jenkins provided support with two hits and scored a run.

Evan Parmer pitched three innings, allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out 5 batters.
BJ Rivera contributed one inning, giving up three runs on two hits, both of which were home runs, and recorded one strikeout.
Jayce Rollins pitched for 3 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
Colby Rice faced four batters without recording an out, issuing two walks and allowing one hit and one run.
Heath Clevenger closed out for 2/3 of an inning, facing two batters and allowing no hits or runs.

Looking ahead, the Mocs will take the field at 5 p.m. ET Tuesday, Feb. 3, against Valdosta State University. The game is set to take place at Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida.
