GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Freshman
Hope Schoenwetter of the Florida Southern College women's track team set a new program Freshman Record in the 3,000m steeplechase Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Fire Invitational. The Longwood, Fla. native was competing in just her second collegiate outdoor meet and it was her first time competing in the steeplechase at the college level. Sophomore
Nika Gividen led the 800m group as she posted the third-fastest time in program history and best since 2021.
Mid-Distance
Gividen led the middle distance group for the second-straight day as she posted the third-fastest 800m performance in program history at 2:19.08 while taking second overall. Senior
Caitlin Beery earned a top-five finish as she took fifth in 2:26.67. Junior
Kira Mothershed was next to cross the finish for the Mocs as she placed 12
th after stopping the clock at 2:23.64. The final Moccasin in the event was freshman
Jane Haight as she finished five spots back in 17
th with a time of 2:39.21.
Distance
Schoenwetter was the lone Moccasin in the steeplechase as she took third overall while setting a new freshman record of 12:27.78, nearly 20 seconds better than the previous record set in 2021. Her time was just over a second shy of the all-time top-10 at FSC.
