ORLANDO, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference has announced the 2025-26 Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams, with Florida Southern women's basketball Sydney Gomes named as the Player of the Year, All-SSC First Team, and the defensive team. Carlota Gomez Alonso was also selected, earning a spot on the All-SSC Third Team. 
 
Gomes, a 5-8 guard from Florida Southern College, was named Player of the Year in SSC by the league's head coaches. The Ponte Vedra, Florida product averaged 18.0 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in 35.8 minutes per game. She was second in the league in points, rebounds, and assists per game. Gomes shot 45 percent from the field, including 34 percent from 3-point range. She helped lead the Mocs to a 22-6 overall record with a 15-5 mark in conference.
 

Gomes becomes just the 12th FSC women's basketball player to earn All-SSC Player of the Year honors, with the last one in 2018-19, Camille Giardina.
 
A five-time Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week and a Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Sydney's excellence has been recognized across the league time and time again.
 
This is Gomes' second year on the All-SSC selection team, earning second-team honors in 2024-25. This year, she recorded her third career triple-double, surpassed 500 career rebounds, 1,000 career points, and 300 career assists, and most recently, set the Florida Southern single-game assist record with 15, cementing her place in program history.

Gomez Alonso, a 5-10 forward from Madrid, Spain, was named an All-SSC Third Team selection. Playing in 16 games, she emerged as one of the Moccasins' most consistent and impactful players. Gomez Alonso averaged 13.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, while shooting 41.5% from the field and 37.7% from three-point range. She also contributed defensively with steals and occasional blocks, finishing the season as one of FSC's key all-around performers.

All-conference selections and individual award winners are determined by a vote of Sunshine State Conference head coaches with oversight and approval from member institution Athletic Directors.
 
With Tuesday's quarterfinal win against Tampa, FSC advances to the SSC semifinals, where they will travel to St. Petersburg to take on the regular-season champions, Eckerd College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the McArthur Center.
