LAKELAND, Fla. — Florida Southern College baseball (11-11) dominated Northwood (3-11) with a commanding 12-5 win on Saturday at Henley Field to extend its win streak to seven games. The Moccasins racked up 12 hits, including a home run, and drew 12 walks in their triumph.
The action kicked off with a bang as Florida Southern exploded for four runs in the first inning.
Mikey Scott singled, swiped second, and darted home on an error, joined by
Eric Harrison Jr. and
Carson Brady.
Cory Filley chipped in with an RBI single, and
Gavin Smith capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly, giving the Mocs an early 4-2 edge.
Harrison Jr. padded the lead in the second with a solo shot to right, pushing the score to 5-3.
In the third, Filley and
Ethan Burkhardt both singled, setting the stage for
Ryan Jenkins to deliver a sacrifice fly, scoring Filley and extending the lead to 6-3.
The fifth inning saw Burkhardt single and advance to score on Scott's fielder's choice, making it 7-3.
Eli Thurmond kept the momentum going in the sixth with a single that brought home Smith, followed by
Amir Streeter's RBI single, bumping the lead to 9-4.
The seventh inning was no different for the Moccasins. Scott walked and scored on Brady's single.
Brady Doorey drew a walk to load the bases, setting up Burkhardt and Thurmond to each drive in a run, widening the gap to 12-4.
Northwood managed a run in the eighth, but Florida Southern held firm, sealing the 12-5 victory.
Scott showed off his speed with two runs and three stolen bases. Harrison Jr. contributed with a homer and two runs. Brady was solid with two hits and two runs, while Thurmond impressed with three RBIs on two hits.
Elliot Joslin started on the mound, facing five batters in just one-third of an inning.
Tanner Rollyson stepped in for a strong relief effort, pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up just one run on three hits, striking out three for the win.
Christian Carew and
Adler Holtz each pitched a scoreless inning, allowing only one hit combined.
Aidan Kelley closed it out with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out two and allowing one hit.
Next up, Florida Southern will face Flagler College on Tuesday, March 10 at 6 p.m. The game will take place at Drysdale Field in St. Augustine, Florida.
