SAINT LEO, Fla. — No. 8 Florida Southern College secured a decisive 6-1 victory over Saint Leo University on Thursday. The Moccasins clinched the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and triumphed in five of the six singles matches.
Florida Southern secured the doubles point with victories on courts No. 2 and No. 3.
Emily Jennewein and
Ronja Scheuermann dominated at No. 2 doubles, defeating Sophia Johnson and Nicol Novak, 6-1.
Annika Berrendorf and
Jolie Miller followed with a 6-2 win over Arianna Bettinelli and Camila Keller at No. 3 doubles. Despite
Kennedi Brown and
Josie Holderbach falling 1-6 to Candice Bernier and Catherine Rabatin at No. 1 doubles, the doubles point was already clinched.
In singles, Florida Southern extended its lead with a commanding performance. Miller opened at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Bettinelli.
Diana Volkov then took No. 6 singles, besting Allie Fernandini 6-0, 6-4. Berrendorf clinched the match for the Moccasins at No. 4 singles, defeating Johnson 6-2, 6-0.
Florida Southern continued to add to its lead post-clinch. Jennewein, ranked No. 38, secured a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Novak at No. 3 singles. Scheuermann concluded the team's singles run with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Keller at No. 2 singles. Saint Leo's sole singles point came from Bernier, who defeated No. 20 Holderbach, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, resulting in a final dual score of 6-1 in favor of Florida Southern.
