NEW ORLEANS – Senior
Chris Colavita along with juniors
Cole Summers and
Michael Toppi of the Florida Southern College men's track team were recently named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-South Region honorees. Colavita took home honors in both the 5,000m and 10,000m while Summers and Toppi joined Colavita on the 10,000m All-Region squad. The Moccasins were one of three programs to place three student-athletes on the 10,000m All-Region team including Grand Valley State University and Wingate University. Five other institutions earned two individuals on the team.
The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, South Central, Southeast and West – match those used during the cross country season.
Colavita earns the first two All-Region honors in outdoor track of his career. The senior set a new program record in the 5,000m at the Bryan Clay Invitational as he posted a time of 14:19.08 in the prestigious event. His top performance in the 10,000m came at the Black and Gold Invitational as he posted the second fastest time this season by a Moccasin at 30:05.14.
Summers picks up his first All-Region recognition in outdoor track after earning All-Sunshine State Conference honors in the 10,000m as both a sophomore and junior. He turned in the top 10,000m time this season by a Moccasin as he clocked in at 29:57.47 at the Black and Gold Invitational. The time is just 26 seconds off the school record set back in 2022.
Toppi is also a first time All-Region honoree in his very first season with the program. He turned in the fourth-best 10,000m time on the team in 2026 as he posted a mark of 30:23.32 at the Black and Gold Invitational.
Colavita becomes the sixth individual in program history to earn two outdoor track all-region honors in the same season joining
Chris Yanichko (5K/10K – 2014),
Evan Quinones (800m/1,500m – 2016 & 2017),
Mason Jones (5K/10K – 2018 & 2022),
Bobby Ormsby (1,500m/5K – 2018) and
