Lakeland, Fla. --- The Florida Southern men's soccer team skyrocketed in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25 poll as the No. 11 team in the country, as announced on Tuesday afternoon (Sep. 29).
FSC receives their second straight entry into the Top 25 polls this season, and their first year to do so since 2018 where they were ranked as high as eighth on October 2nd of that same season. The Mocs are the highest of one other team in the SSC to be ranked in this week's polls, with only Florida Tech placed at no. 22.
The Mocs currently have an 8-0-1 record, highlighted by three straight wins in SSC play and a nonconference win over the then no. 24 Flagler. It's just the second season that the Mocs have started 3-0 in conference play since the 1960 season, with the other coming in 2018.
The squad has allowed only one or fewer goal in eight of their nine matches, including four clean sheets by graduate student keeper
Ricardo Marques. Maques himself is top-15 nationally in shutouts (4) and second in the SSC in GAA (0.89).
Offensively, the Mocs have spread their offensively attack around widely as three different Mocs have scored five or more times on the season, including team leader
Tim Baierlein with his seven goals that are top-20 natioanlly and are the most against Division II opponents in the SSC. Freshman defender
Ollie Stephens also has four goals midway through his opening campaign as he provides a spark on set pieces that have turned the tides of many matches.
The no. 11 Mocs keep up SSc play as they host Saint Leo in a match where they look top avenge their lone loss of the season. Kickoff at Berend Field is set for Wednesday (Sep. 30) at 7 p.m.
