After day one of the South/Southeast Super Regional in Florence, Ala., the Moccasins are tied for 11th with Lander.
They trail team leader North Alabama by 15 strokes, but are within striking distance of where they need to be to qualify for the Division II Championship. The Moccasins have a team score of 296. Columbus State and Georgia College & State are tied for fifth at 290. West Florida is fourth at 289, Barry is third at 288 and Lynn is second at 285. North Alabama is first at 281. The top five teams in the 20-team field will advance to the Division II Championship.
Jude Eustaquio led the Moccasin contingent with a one-under-par 71. He and seven others are tied for ninth. Lynn's Chris Goldan is the individual leader at five-under-par 67.
Brian Richey finished with an even-par 72, which has him tied for 17th. Matt Stauch shot a one-over-par 73 and is tied for 29th. Rob Gleixner shot an 80 and Danny Evelyn finished his opening rund with an 85.
Round two of the tournament will be played Tuesday, with the final round set for Wednesday.
