Richey Qualifies For D-II Championship

Brian Richey, the only senior on the Moccasin golf team, will get to finish his college career playing in the NCAA Division II Championship.

Shooting a second straight one-under-par 71 in the final round of the South/South Central Super Regional at Florence, Ala., Wednesday, Richey finished with a final score of 214 that put him in a tie for fourth and earned him one of the individual qualifying positions. The Lakeland High School graduate will represent FSC at the Division II Championship May 19-22 at Blaine, Washington.

Starting the day in a tie for eighth, the Moccasins were unable to make up enough ground to qualify as a team. They only were able to move up to seventh place and finished with a team score of 886. It's the first time since 2005 the Moccasins have not advanced as a team to the Division II Championship.

North Alabama overtook Lynn to win the team title by one stroke, 868 to 869. Barry was third at 874. Columbus State was fourth at 875 and Georgia College & State took the fifth and final qualifying position with an 876.

After Richey's 214, the Moccasins had Jude Eustaquio and Matt Stauch tied for 34th at 222. Rob Gleixner tied for 81st at 231 and Danny Evelyn tied for 96th at 236.

North Alabama's Jake Greer was the individual winner by three strokes with a final score of 210.
