If the Moccasins liked where they were after the first round of the NCAA Division II South Regional 2, they like where they are after Monday's second round even better, as they expanded a first-round lead of one stroke to a seven-stroke advantage going into Tuesday's final round. ÂÂ
All four of the Moccasin counters improved their scores from Sunday's first round and they produced the best round of the day, a 296, Monday at Stonebrook Golf Club in Pace. At 598, FSC leads second-place Barry by seven strokes after Barry shot a 300 Monday to claim a two-day total of 605.
Still in the picture is defending national champion Nova Southeastern. The Sharks, playing with just four golfers, also had a 300 Tuesday and are in third place at 608, 10 behind the Moccasins. The top three teams will advance to the NCAA Division II Championship May 16-19 at Louisville, Ky.
M.J. Audette shot an even-par 72 Monday, one better than Sunday's first round, and is in fourth place with a 145. She is four strokes behind the individual leader, Nova Southeastern's Lilliana Camisa, who shot a 67 Monday and is at 141. Her Nova teammate, Abbey Gittings, is one stroke back at 142. Barry's Nancy Vergara is third at 144.
Amy Hodgkinson and Megan Kiley, who each shot a 79 Sunday, stayed even with one another for the second day, as each shot a 74. That put them in a tie for 14th at 153. Joining them in that group was Barbora Vejlupkova, who shot a 76 Monday. The Moccasins did not have to count Jackie Rajek's 83 that gave her a two-day total of 155 and put her in a tie for 20th.
Not only are the top three teams from the Sunshine State Conference, the top six are all SSC schools. Lynn is fourth at 614. Saint Leo is fifth at 617. Rollins is sixth at 620, followed by Tusculum seventh at 624, Newberry eighth at 626 and UNC-Pembroke ninth at 627.
