ORLANDO - Florida Southern closed out its 2013 fall schedule here Tuesday by shooting a final round score of 292 to finish in a tie for 11th out of 16 teams at The McDonough Cup hosted by Rollins College and held at Eagle Creek Golf Club.
The Moccasins, who are ranked 11th in the most recent Golf World/Nike Golf Division II Coaches' Poll, finished the two-day, 54-hole event with a score of 881 and move up three spots on the leaderboard after carding rounds of 296 and 293 in Monday's first two rounds. The Mocs stood in 14th place with a 589 entering Tuesday's final round.
FSC finished the tournament tied with Valdosta State and Eckerd College. VSU shot a 296 in the final round, while Eckerd fired a 299 on Tuesday.
Armstrong Atlantic, who is ranked 16th in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll, shot a final score score of 283 to claim the team championship as the Pirates finished the event with a seven-under par score of 857 for 54 holes. No. 4 Nova Southeastern and No. 22 Lander each tied for second as they shot three-under par 861's for the tournament. In Tuesday's final round, NSU shot a 288 and Lander fired a 285.
Florida Tech, who was the tournament leader following Monday's first two rounds, shot a 293 on Tuesday to fall to fourth place as the Panthers finished with a score of 865 for 54 holes.
This year's tournament featured 14 schools mentioned in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll, including nine schools ranked in the poll's Top 25. Some other finishes by ranked teams included No. 1 Barry shooting a 54 hole total of 876 and finishing tied for eighth, while No. 3 Lynn also shot an 876 for 54 holes to finish tied for eighth and No. 7 Columbus State shot an 874 for 54 holes to finish in sixth place. Leading the way for the Mocs was senior All-American Tim Crouch (Mt. Vernon, Ohio) as the defending NCAA Division II National Champion medalist fired a four-under par 212 to finish in a two-way tie for fourth place with Nova Southeastern's Hunter O'Mahony. Crouch fired a 2-under par 70 in Tuesday's final round and shot par or better in all three rounds of the event as he fired a 70 in the first round and 72 in the second round on Monday.
Crouch was one of 18 golfers to finish the tournament with a score of par or better, including 13 golfers that shot under par for 54 holes.
Lander's Robert Prior was the tournament's individual medalist as he fired a 69 in Tuesday's final round to finish the 54 hole event with a nine-under par 207. Carson-Newman's Jonathan Kim-Moss and Armstrong's Travis Williamson tied for second as they shot five-under par 211's.  ÂÂ
In addition to Crouch, senior Shane Convery (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) shot a 72 in the final round to finish in a tie for 35th place with a 220. Convery fired rounds of 73 and 75 on Monday, before shooting an even-par 72 on Tuesday. Sophomore Alex Carpenter (Westerville, Ohio) finished with a 77 on Tuesday to push his 54 hole total to 226 and finish in a tie for 59th place, while freshman Eric Yarrows (Easthampton, Mass.) shot a 77 in the final round and finished tied for 62nd with a 227 for 54 holes in his first tournament as a collegiate golfer.
The final finisher for the Mocs was sophomore Austin Schultz (Lakeland, Fla.) as he shot a one-over 73 on Tuesday and finished the 54 event in a tie for 64th place after shooting a 228. Schultz fired rounds of 77 and 78 respectively on Monday.
FSC ended its fall season with two Top 6 finishes as a team as they tied for third at The Doc Gimmler at Bethpage Red in Farmingdale, N.Y and was sixth at the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational in Columbus, Ga. In addition to the two Top 6 team finishes, Crouch finished the fall with two Top 5 finishes as he was second at the AFLAC Invitational in Columbus, Ga., and tied for fourth at The McDonough Cup.
