GAINESVILLE â€" Florida Southern’s 400-freestyle relay team of senior Robbie Swan, junior Allan Gutierrez, freshman Diego Gimenez, and junior Jesus Marin took fourth place in Sunday’s finals, while junior Luis Rojas reached the “A†finals of the 200-backstroke to provide the highlights of the final day of competition at the All Florida Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida.
The Moccasins’ best performance of the day came in the final event of the 3-day meet where Swan, Gutierrez, Gimenez and Marin turned in a time of 3:06.87, to finish behind only Florida and two teams from Florida State in the 400-freestyle relay. That closed out a third-place finish for the Moccasins, who finished 38 points ahead of the only other Division II school in the meet, Nova Southeastern. Florida and Florida State were the two schools ahead of Florida Southern.

In each of the other three individual events the Mocs competed in, they also sent four swimmers to the “B†finals, with Gutierrez involved in two of them, and Rojas and Gimenez adding one more to their count.
Gutierrez won the “B†finals of the 100-freestyle in 46.56 seconds, beating out Swan by four one-hundredths of a second, and Gimenez not far behind.
In the 200-butterfly, the Mocs got a time of 1:53.11 from sophomore Raul Garrastazu, who won the “B†finals of that race by finishing a little over three seconds ahead of Gutierrez. Redshirt freshman Alec Wathen and sophomore Juan Tolosa also qualified.
