NORMAN, Okla. - Florida Southern jumped two spots to No. 6 in the second regular season Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Top 25 Poll that was released over the weekend by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The Moccasins, who were ranked eighth in the first regular season poll that was released on Sept. 25, jumped two spots in the poll after finishing third of 18 teams nearly two weeks ago at the Guy Harvey Invitational held at PGA National and hosted by Nova Southeastern.
FSC is one of seven Sunshine State Conference schools either ranked or receiving votes in this season's second regular season poll. In addition, the Mocs are one of five league schools ranked inside the Top 10 as Nova Southeastern is No. 2, while Saint Leo is third, Barry is fourth and Lynn is ranked ninth. The other league teams included in this week's poll are Florida Tech at No. 19, while Rollins earned 22 votes to be seventh among the 33 schools receiving votes.
In the second regular season poll, the Mocs earned 320 points to sit 21 points behind No. 5 West Florida (341 points) and 16 points in front of No. 7 USC Aiken (304 points).
Chico State takes over the top spot from Nova Southeastern as the Wildcats earned 417 points and 11 of 17 first place votes. Nova Southeastern, who had been ranked No. 1 for nine straight polls, fell to No. 2 as the Sharks earned 389 points and one first place votes, while Saint Leo earned five first place votes and 362 points to jump eight spots to No. 3. Barry (360 points) is followed in the poll at No. 5 by UWF.
FSC and USC Aiken are followed in the poll at No. 8 by Cal State-Monterery Bay (277 points) and following Lynn in the poll at No. 10 is Central Missouri (247 points).
North Alabama (224 points) is ranked 11th and the Lions are followed at No. 12 by Lee (Tenn.) and West Georiga (179 points) jumps two spots to No. 13. Missouri-St. Louis (176 points) is 14th, while Flagler (174 points) falls six spots to No. 15 and Simon Fraser (161 points) tumbles three spots to No. 16. Georgia Southwestern (113 points) jumps two spots to No. 17 and is followed at No. 18 by Columbus State (101 points), Florida Tech at No. 19 and Carson-Newman (75 points) rounds out the poll's Top 20.
Western New Mexico (63 points) remains at No. 21 and they are followed by Cal Baptist (60 points) and Indianapolis (60 points), who are tied for 22nd. Central Oklahoma (58 points) falls 10 spots to a tie for 24th with Colorado-Colorado Springs (58 points) to round out the latest poll.
The Mocs are closing out its fall season this week (Oct. 26-27) at the McDonough Cup hosted by Rollins College and held in Orlando at the Rio Pinar Golf Club.
