Mocs Sit Second After Two Rounds of Southeastern Collegiate; Coultas Tied for Second Overall

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Florida Southern carded a 1-over 289 in Monday's second round to fall one spot down the leaderboard to sit in second place following the first two days of the three-day First Federal Southeastern Collegiate hosted by Valdosta State University and held at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

With its 1-over 289 in the second round, the sixth-ranked Moccasins have now shot a 1-under 575 for 36 holes as a team. The Mocs enter Tuesday's final round sitting two shots behind West Florida, who has shot a 3-under 573 for 36 holes, who climbed five spots up the leaderboard after carding a 6-under 282 in the second round. 

The fourth-ranked Argonauts and the Mocs are the only two schools that have shot under par as a team after the first two rounds of the tournament at Kinderlou Forest. The tournament features 11 nationally ranked teams. 

Leading the way for the Mocs after two rounds and 36 holes of play is sophomore John Coultas (Valrico, Fla.), who followed up his 4-under 68 in Sunday's opening round with a 1-over 73 on Tuesday. Coultas, who held the first round lead, is now tied for second after 36 holes after shooring a 3-under 141. In Monday's second round, Coultas had two birdies, three bogeys and 13 pars on his scorecard. 

West Florida's Talin Rajendranath took over the top spot on the leaderboard entering Tuesday's final round after firing a 5-under 67 in Monday's second round. Rajendranath was tied for third after the first round, but his second round 67 pushed him into the lead as he has shot a 5-under 137 for 36 holes. 

Coultas is tied with Lee's Taylor Davis and North Alabama's Michael Peter for second place and are four shots behind Rajendranath. 

Through 36 holes of action, eight players are currently shooting under par on the 7,313-yard Kinderlou Forest course. 

In addition to Coultas, sophomore John VanDerLaan (Southbury, Conn.) and freshman Christian Anderson (Ocala, Fla.) are tied for ninth after 36 holes after carding even-par 144's. 

VanDerLaan, who fired a 1-over 73 in the first round, carded a 1-under 71 in the second round, while Anderson followed up his 1-under 71 on Sunday with a 1-over 73 in Monday's second round. On Monday, VanDerLaan had four birdies, one bogey, a double-bogey and 12 pars on his scorecard, while Anderson finished with two bogeys, a birdie and 15 pars on his scorecard.

The final counter for the Mocs on Monday was junior Levin Hoffmann (Sarstedt, Germany) as he carded an even-par 72 in the second round to jump 21 spots up the leaderboard to sit in a tie for 44th place with a 5-over 149 for 36 holes. In Monday's second round, Hoffmann, who carded a 77 in the first round, had three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars on his scorecard.

FSC's final competitor on Monday was sophomore Jimmy Jones (Tampa, Fla.) as he carded a second round 3-over 75 to push his 36 hole total to a 5-over 149 to sit in a tie for 44th place. Jones shot a 2-over 74 in the first round. Jones recorded two birdies, five bogeys and 11 pars on his scorecard.

The Mocs will conclude play in the First Federal Southeastern Collegiate on Tuesday, March 15 as they tee off beginning at 10 a.m. from the No. 1 tee. The Mocs five golfers will play in threesomes with second round leader West Florida and Lynn.
