DAVIE, FLA. – The Florida Southern men's swimming team opened the 2019-20 campaign tonight at the Shark Invitational, and are in second place after Day One. The two-day event is being hosted by Nova Southeastern University, and features six different men's teams.
The host Sharks are currently in first place with 506 team points. Florida Southern rests in second place with 350 points, followed by Savannah College of Art and Design (311 points), Keiser (259), Florida Tech (193), and Lynn (85).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Leading the way for the Mocs was Talor Hamilton, who won the 50-freestyle event in just 21.17 seconds. The senior nearly reached the NCAA B Standard time of 20.75.
- Junior Matias Lopez had a strong outing as well, placing second in the 200-individual medley, with a time of 1:54.07, and fourth in the 500-free, with a time of 4:41.20.
- Junior Miguel Bernotti placed third in the 200-butterfly in 1:53.23.
- Sophomore Jacob Tuckerman finished fourth in the 200-backstroke in 1:59.02.
- Fifth place finishers included juniors Carlos Bernotti in the 200-free (1:44.16) and Calvin Giang in the 200-back (1:59.35).
- Freshman Luka Prostran placed sixth in the 500-free with a time of 4:44.04, as sophomore Theo Peristeridis took seventh in the 200-fly with a time of 1:58.94.
- Finishing on a dead heat for eighth in the 200-free was junior Levi Parsons, who finished in 1:46.42.
- In the 200-free relay, FSC's A Relay team of Hamilton, sophomore JJ Saslo, sophomore Ethan Oliva, Carlos Bernotti placed second in 1:25.08.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Nine men's events were held on Day One, with the remaining eight taking place on Day Two.
