KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The No. 21 Florida Southern College men's golf team made a dramatic move in Round Three of the Newberry College Invitational, held at the Kiawah Island Ocean Course. However, the third round results will not count, as it was not fully completed due to heavy rains and darkness.
Earlier in the day, Florida Southern had moved up and into fifth place, with a combined 292, the second best round from any school on the day. However, the official results will reflect the end of the last fully completed round, Round Two, where the Mocs were tied for 8th plce at +31.
ROUND THREE
The Mocs bested their second round score by three strokes, as freshman Chris Fosdick carded a second straight round of 70. He birdied holes two and three, before doing the same on holes six and nine to be -4 at the turn. He was at -4 until a double bogey on 15 put him at 70, -2, for the day. In all, his combined +1, 217, over three round, placed him tied for sixth overall.
Sophomore Max Coutsolioutsos, also made a big move towards the top, with a +1, 73, in the third round. Back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes helped him save par through the front nine. A bogey on the par-4 16th placed him at +1 for the round. He had moved up into a 19th place tie with a combined 223 by the end of the day.
Tying for 48th overall were freshman Adam Alvarez and senior Chase Ibbotson, with identical 231 scores for the event. In Round Three, Ibbotson shot a 76, while Alvarez shot a 79.
UP NEXT
The Mocs take a brief hiatus before competing again at the Southeastern Intercollegiate on March 8-9, hosted by Valdosta State at Kinderlou Forest.
