LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Southern College men's swimming team fought through rain in a home opener against Indian River State College Friday afternoon at the Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center Pool.
The Mocs were able to have four individual event wins, and won the 400 yard medley relay win. However, the Pioneers were able to come out with a meet win, 111-94, which came down to the last event with a close 400 freestyle relay result.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first event was the 400 yard medley relay with a team of Brandon Dyck, Ludovico Viberti, JJ Saslo, and Milosz Mencel in first, and team of Brandon Wilson, Ludwig Mueller, Theo Peristeridis, and Cameron Lai-Harris in third.
- For the mile freestyle, Elder Oliveira finished second and Cole Smith in third
- Mencel finished ahead of the Pioneers in the 200 yard freestyle
- The ever-exciting 50 yard freestyle found Lai-Harris in second and JJ Salso just edging out Dyck for third
- In a close race for second, Viberti came out to take the second place spot in the 400 yard IM
- Lai-Harris had a third place finish in the 100 yard butterfly
- An exciting finish in the 100 yard freestyle as Mencel finished second in an event down to the wire
- Dyck finished first in the 100 yard backstroke, with Wilson in third
- Niko Frese had a great showing in the 500 yard freestyle to finish first, with Keith Peristeridis in third.
- Viberti continued his dominance in the 100 yard breaststroke with a new season-best time for first place finish
- Tied for second in most of the 400 yard freestyle, team of K. Peristeridis, Ethan Oliva, Frese, and Miguel Bernotti narrowly missed the mark, to finish third against the Pioneers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Viberti's time of 4:03.29 in the 400 IM is good for eighth all-time in school history
- With a time of 54.81 in the 100 yard breaststroke, Viberti is good for third in Division II so far this season, and fifth all-time in FSC history
- Four Moccasins had one event win each in the meet
