Mistretta Paces #18 Mocs at the Shark Invitational

Mistretta places 15th while the Mocs finished in 6th place

DAVIE, Fla. – No. 18 Florida Southern men's golf climbed one spot Tuesday to finish the 2022 Shark invitational hosted by Nova Southeastern at the Grande Oaks Golf Club in sixth place, out of 12 teams. The Moccasins saw Tyler Mistretta finish in the top-15 to pace the squad on the links for the 54-hole event.
 
Florida Southern used a one-over 285 final round to jump the spot in the leaderboard and finished just seven strokes off fifth place, Embry-Riddle (862). The Mocs finished with a three-round total of 869 (+17) on the par-71 6,800-yard course. 
 
Sophomore Tyler Mistretta led the Mocs from wire-to-wire and finished tied for 15th at 215 (+2). Over his final 18 holes Tuesday, Mistretta made four birdies and nine pars to round out his tournament second on the team in birdies with 11 and had 29 pars.
 
Junior Adam Alvarez jumped 13 spots on the player leaderboard after carding a team best 69 (-2) for a 54-hole score of 217 (+4), finishing tied for 21st. Alvarez tallied five birdies and 11 pars over the final round of golf to finish first on the team with 12 birdies and was tied for third with 29 total pars.
 
Sophomore Clay Tucker also jumped over 10 spots in the leaderboard to finish in 31st place with a one-under 70 for Tuesday's round. Tucker finished with a seven-over 220 for the tournament while making a team best 32 pars and had nine birdies over the course of the 54 holes.
 
Sophomore Max Barile carded a final round 74 (+3) to finish in 38th place at 223 (+10), three strokes behind Tucker. Barile had 12 pars Tuesday, which brought his tournament total to 31, one off the team lead.
 
Juniors Bryce Walker and Max Watson tied for 54th at 227 (+14) after Walker fired a 74 (+3) and Watson a 79 (+8) over the final 18 holes. Watson was third on the team in pars for the tournament with 30 while Walker made 25 pars and had nine birdies.
 
No. 1 Barry took home the team title after the Buccaneers fired off a 12-under 272 for the third and final round, finishing with a three-round score of 839 (-13). Will O'Neill, of Nova Southeastern, and Ian Aldarando, of Embry-Riddle, tied for first at eight-under 205, but the tie breaker went to O'Neill. O'Neill shot an even-par 71 and earned the win in the tie breaker over Aldarando, who shot a two-under 69 to force the tie breaker.

Florida Southern will return to the links on Oct. 17 and 18 when the Mocs travel to the West Coast of the United States to compete in the Otter Invitational hosted by California State University, Monterey Bay (CSU MB) in Seaside, Calif. at Bayonet Golf Course.
