MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference has released the All-SSC honors for the 2022 season and the Florida Southern College women's soccer boasts seven All-SSC accolades, including Defensive Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year.
Head coach
Paul Lawrence, who led the team to the program's first SSC Regular Season Championship, was voted the SSC Coach of the Year by his peers and becomes only the second coach in FSC coach named to the honor (Ben Strawbridge in 2007). Lawrence, in his sixth year at the helm for the Mocs, finished the regular season with a 12-1-3 record, the best record since 2009, and set a school record for eight conference wins. As a team, Lawrence has led the Mocs to a conference-best 2.625 scoring average and 2.00 scoring margin.
For the first time in FSC history, FSC women's soccer has an athlete win Freshman of the Year as
Angelina Coelho is named to the honor. The Tequesta, Fla. native has been a star for the Mocs with six goals in the year and four game-winners. She added an assist to her 13 points and took both of Florida Southern's penalty kicks this season, netting both in big games. Coelho played in 15 games, with nine of them starts, for her 854 minutes this season.
Morgan Collica earned the SSC Defensive Player of the Year award. The defender from Aurora, Ohio, led a Mocs defense that posted nine shutouts and held opponents to 0.63 goals per game. She scored three times, netting two game-winners in her team-leading 1,249 minutes played across 15 games. Collica joins Amy Clampitt-Holsenbeck (2007) as the only Moccasin to win the Defensive Player of the Year honor.
In addition to the Defensive, Freshman, and Coach of the Year honors, the Mocs had a total of four athletes on the All-SSC team.
Caitlyn Lowery was given a First Team selection after leading the Mocs with 10 goals this season, and another five assists during the regular season. Her 25 total points is second in the conference, and she was 10th in the nation for game-winning goals (5), and top 40 in total goals and total points at the end of the Moccasins regular season.
Senior transfer
Lindsey Meyer also joined C. Lowery and Collica on the All-SSC First Team as a critical midfielder in Florida Southern's offensive success. Meyer started each of the 12 games she appeared in and had four goals and four assists this year. Her 867 minutes on the field culminated in 22 shots, 11 of which were on goal, to help lead the Mocs to the best season in years.
Florida Southern's senior goalkeeper
Jenny Staten rounded out the Moccasin SSC honors with a Second Team nod. Led by Staten, the Mocs have a combined nine shutouts this season, six when Staten is in goal, to set a new school record in shutouts in a single season. Having only allowed 10 goals all year, Florida Southern's defensive backline is a strong point in the SSC. The Kildeer, Ill. native has 16 career shutouts, second in FSC history, as well as 0.73 goals against average and 0.843 save percentage this year that rivals the best ever seen at Florida Southern. She has 43 saves this year and joins Collica and many other defenders to a conference-best 0.63 goals against average as a team.
