Men's Golf's Mistretta Qualifies for 122nd U.S. Amateur

LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College men's golfer Tyler Mistretta took second place at the U.S. Qualifier at Hobe Sound Golf Club July 13-14 to qualify for the 2022 U.S. Amateur on Aug. 15-21.
 
Mistretta, a redshirt freshman student-athlete on the Moccasins golf team, finished the two-round tournament at three-under 141. He carded an even-par 72 before a three-under 69 for his second and final round.

"Qualifying for any USGA event is a great accomplishment," Head Coach Lee White '12 said. "I am really excited for Tyler, he has been working really hard and deserves the success." 

Mistretta is set to be the first Florida Southern men's golfer to play in the U.S. Amateur since Marc Dull in 2016. 
 
In round one, Mistretta opened with a one-over 37 on the front nine before closing with a one-under 35 on the back to save par. He made two birdies and 14 par's over the course of his first 18 holes.
 
During round two, the North Palm Beach, Fla. native started off hot with an eagle on hole no. 1. He stayed red-hot with five birdies over the next seven holes for a 32 on the front nine. He closed with a 37 on the back with eight pars and a single bogey for a final round of 69.
 
The 2022 U.S. Amateur will take place August 15-21 at the Ridgewood Country Club and the Arcola Country Club located in Paramus, N.J. The Ridgewood Country Club is slated for a 7,487-yard par-71 course while the Arcola Country Club, which is the Stroke-play co-host, is set for a 7,256-yard par-70.
