#12 Men's Golf Places Seventh at the Griffin Invitational

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – No. 12 Florida Southern Men's Golf closed the first tournament of the year with in seventh place out of 13 teams at the Griffin Invitational hosted by Saint Leo University at the Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville. The Mocs carded a 293 over the final 18 as a group to close the season-opening tournament.
 
Clay Tucker used a one-over 73 third round to stick inside the top-20 with an 18th place finish to start his sophomore season. The Jacksonville, Fla. native made 10 par's with two birdies and an eagle on the 541-yard par-5 fifth hole.
 
Tyler Mistretta and Adam Alvarez joined Tucker inside the top half of the 83-person field. Mistretta, a sophomore out of North Palm Beach, Fla., turned in a final round 75 (+3) to finish at six-over 22 in 29th place. Mistretta had 11 par's and three birdies over his final 18 Tuesday. Alvarez, a redshirt junior from Winter Haven, Fla., finished in 33rd at seven-over 223 with a final round 71 (-1), the lone Moc to go under-par Tuesday.
 
Max Watson and Freddie Parlby rounded out the starting five in the field and their first tournament donning the Red and White in 48th place and 53rd place, respectively. The Ashland, Ohio native, Watson, narrowly tallied a clean card with 16 par's and two bogey's to finish the tournament with a two-over 74 final round. The junior closed the tournament at 10-over 226 ahead of Parlby by two strokes.
 
Parlby, a freshman from Sheffield, England, carded a 75 (+3) over Tuesday's round with a 54-hole score of 228 (+12).
 
Freshman Ethan Bridges, a native of Woodlands, Texas, was the sixth Moccasin on the course and matched his second round 74 (+2) on Tuesday for a third round 74.
 
Florida Southern finished in seventh at 886 (+22) after a team score of 293 (+5) for the third and final round. No. 7 West Florida captured the team title, the second tournament title at the Griffin Invitational, with a score of 16-under 848. Barry's A.J. Ewart was the individual medalist with a 54-hole score of 205 (-11).
