LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida Southern College women's basketball head coach
Megan Dzikas '12 promotes former volunteer assistant coach
Vernisha Andrews to full-time assistant coach after Dzkias was promoted to head coach earlier this month.
"It was an easy decision to promote Vernisha to full-time within our program," said Dzikas. "She brings experience, and has incredible energy, and her work ethic, character, loyalty, and commitment to this program are unmatched. She continues to be a vital part of this program's success."
Andrews joined FSC women's basketball staff prior to the 2021-22 season and helped get the Mocs to the NCAA DII South Region Tournament. She, along with Dzikas, coached point guard
Julia Jenike to honorable mention honors in the WBCA and was named to the D2CCA All-South Region Teams with teammate
Whitney Jacob. Jacob was awarded Sunshine State Conference Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-SSC honors alongside Jenike.
"I am so grateful to be alongside coach Dzikas and to be a part of a program with winning traditions," said Andrews. "I want to thank coach Dzikas for choosing me to be her assistant, I am eager to continue the development of our student-athletes to help them become better on and off the court!"
Prior to her time at Florida Southern, Andrews served as an assistant coach at Hillsborough Community College for one year after finishing her professional career playing overseas in Ireland for the Templeogue team.
A successful collegiate athlete herself, Andrews was a four-year member of the Mocs conference rival Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. While at Rollins she led the Tars in rebounding and ranked fourth in the Sunshine State Conference with 8.3 boards a game. She was named to both Rollins Athletic Director and Sunshine State Conference Honor Rolls.
A 2019 graduate of Rollins College, Andrews played all four years for the Tars and earned a degree in communications with a concentration in public relations and a minor in business management. During the 2019-2020 season, Andrews traveled overseas to Ireland to play professionally, while also working toward a Master of Science degree in global brand management from Griffith College in Dublin.
