#13 Mocs Lose Close Battle Against #4 Tars

FSC won doubles but lost in singles with a 4-3 conference road loss

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The No. 13 Florida Southern College men's tennis team fell just short of an upset against No. 4 Rollins College with a 4-3 loss on Friday afternoon at Copeland Stadium.

The Mocs (15-6, 2-4 SSC) won the doubles point but were unable to hold on in singles for a conference win. The Tars (17-1, 6-1 SSC) had a big rally in singles with four court wins to keep FSC with a loss.

In doubles, the Mocs had a great showing with a quick win at the #3 court by Matteo Feggi and Ryan Rajakar with a 6-1 victory. Rollins responded with a win at the #2 court as Quaynor and Stenzer beat Bosko Boskovic and Inaki Braun Simo 6-3. With the point on the line, FSC came in clutch with a 6-3 win by No. 16 pairing of Chris Fok Kow and Mario Garoz.

The Tars rallied in singles with four court wins to rally in a win over the Mocs. Gabriel Jornert initially put the Mocs with a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-3 flight win at #5. The Tars then had their first flight win of the day with a #6 flight win over Edoardo Melindo in two sets though a close first set with a tiebreak. No. 18 Fok Kow then had a three-set win over No. 22 Comu, after splitting the first two, as the final FSC flight win of the day.

Rollins took off with three straight wins in the middle of the lineup that started with a three-set rally by Casteneda over Boskovic. Next was a close battle at #2 court with No. 53 Garoz, which split the first two sets in seven, followed by a 6-4 loss in set three. The match point came down to the #3 court as Braun-Simo lost in three sets in a 4-3 conference team loss against a tough, high-ranked opponent.

The Mocs will finish their regular season schedule with a match against No. 8 Barry University on Tuesday, April 16, set for a 2 p.m. start in Miami Shores.
