LAKELAND, Fla. — The Florida Southern College men's track team closed out action at the Fire Invitational in Lakeland, Fla. Saturday afternoon. The Moccasins competed in a pair of events including the 3,000m steeplechase and the 800m. FSC posted six top-10 finishers in the steeplechase while sophomore Andrew Nyland won the 800m.

Mid-Distance  
Nyland led a group of five Mocs in the 800m as he bested the field with a time of 1:53.11. Sophomore Daniel Welling finished just four seconds later and picked up a fifth-place showing at 1:57.57. Freshman Zack Gunderson crossed the line in 2_01.69 to place 18^th while the final two Moccasins placed inside the top-30. Sophomore Joshua White claimed 24^th after stopping the clock at 2:09.45 while junior Nathan Holmes came in four spots back in 28^th with a time of 2:17.54.

Distance  
Junior Dillon Mantei led the steeplechase group as he posted the eighth fastest time in program history as he crossed the finish in 9:31.48. The time earned him second overall as the Mocs took spots second through fifth in the event. Sophomore Tyler Gaines was next to stop the clock as he took third in 9:41.37. Just seven seconds later senior Caleb Brady claimed fourth at 9:48.45. The final member of the top-five was junior Declan Ziomek who took fifth with a mark of 9:51.59. The final two Mocs in the race finished back-to-back in eighth and ninth. Freshman Skyler Jensen was the first to cross as he clocked in at 10:00.11 while junior Cameron Raney crossed the line in 10:07.23.
