The Moccasins got a taste of Division I competition Wednesday, as the University of Pennsylvania posted a 6-3 decision on the FSC Courts.
The Quakers improved their record to 6-2, while the Moccasins saw their four-match winning streak halted and dropped to 4-7. FSC is the only Division II school on the Pennsylvania schedule.
An 8-6 win by Ivan Marevic and Jorje Gutierrez at No. 1 doubles pulled the Moccasins even after Penn had won at No. 3 doubles. However, the Quakers took the No. 2 doubles match and posted wins at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 3 singles to clinch the match.
The Moccasins claimed a pair of singles wins at No. 5 and No. 6. Gutierrez outlasted Jason Magnes, 2-6, 6-3, 10-5, to claim the No. 5 spot and Carl Lundberg won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6.
Monday the Moccasins continue their 10-match home stand with a 2 p.m. contest against Northwood (Mich.) at the FSC Courts.
