The Moccasins didn't need much time to finish their suspended match with Florida Tech from Saturday at the Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Tennis Championship in Lakeland. Leading 4-1 when play was suspended Saturday, the Moccasins quickly scored the deciding point and claimed fifth place with a 5-1 win Sunday.
Jorge Gutierrez completed a straight-set win at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3, over the Panthers' Kermit Strachan to clinch the match victory.
The win improved the Moccasins' record to 13-11 and avenged a 7-2 loss to the Panthers on Apr. 2 in the final regular season match.
The Moccasins will learn Tuesday if they have been selected for the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament. The selections will be announced at 8 p.m. and can be seen at www.ncaa.com.
