LAKELAND - Florida Southern snapped its three-match losing skid here Monday afternoon as the 29th-ranked Moccasins posted an 8-1 non-conference victory over Wayne State (Mich.) at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
With the victory, Trey Heath's Mocs improve to 4-5 on the season, while WSU falls to 3-4 on the season.
In Monday's match, the Mocs opened by two of the three matches in doubles as FSC's No. 1 team of sophomore Emanuel Lueber (Tiengen, Germany) and junior Benoit Paradis (Quebec City, Quebec) won 8-5 and the Mocs No. 2 team of junior Nathan Leavitt (Bradenton, Fla.) and junior Vladimir Barabash (Puhovka, Ukraine) won 8-5. WSU, though, would collect an 8-6 win at the No. 3 spot.
Meanwhile, in singles action, the Mocs won at the No. 2-6 spots, including the match win at the No. 4 spot as Barabash defeated Michael FitzGerald in three sets as Barabash lost the first set, 6-2, before earning wins of 6-1 and 6-4 in the final two sets to earn the win.
WSU's other point in the match would come at the No. 1 singles spot, as Lueber suffered a straight set (6-3, 6-4) loss to Aman Gill.
The Mocs will return to action on Wednesday, March 13 as they host Bluefield State in a 3 p.m. non-conference match at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
