LAKELAND, Fla. - Florida Southern College men's tennis had a strong singles showing on Friday afternoon as it defeated Bates, 6-1, at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center. The frigid and windy weather did not prevent the No. 18 Moccasins (2-1) from taming the Bobcats (1-2) in less than two-and-a-half hours.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Doubles began with a 1-1 split as Cameron Kania and Leo Kupferman won 6-4 in the No. 1 flight and Pablo Salamanca and Valentin Hertweck partnered to win 6-2 in the No. 2 flight. Southern took the doubles point as Erik Nordblom and Hikaru Nagoshi won 6-4 in the No. 3 flight.
- The Moccasins cruised early in singles as Andres Cabezas won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 flight and Danny Thomas defeated Nick Glover by a 6-0, 6-3 scoreline in the No. 6 slight. FSC clinched the match when Brian Pham won 6-1, 6-3 over Alex Kennedy in the No. 5 flight.
- Miroslav Cvjetan continued the Moccasin streak with a 6-1, 6-4 result in the No. 4 flight and Chase Martin held off a comeback in the No. 3 flight with a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 victory, taking a 10-5 tiebreaker.
- The Bobcats prevented the sweep as Kania won 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 in the No. 2 flight over Oscar Sohl with a 11-9 tiebreaker being the difference.
