ORLANDO, Fla. - Florida Southern College men's tennis won its third-straight match on Tuesday afternoon, winning 6-1 over Davenport at the USTA National Center. The No. 18 Moccasins (4-1) gave up two sets in singles to the Panthers (7-3) as Southern dominated on the court.
"I thought the guys did a good job stepping up," head coach Greg Van Emburgh said. "It was nice to get a solid win on the road today."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Mocs went up early by earning the doubles point, with Danny Thomas and Chase Martin winning 6-2 in the No. 3 flight, Valentin Hertweck and Pablo Salamanca winning 7-5 in the No. 2 flight and Brian Pham and Andres Cabezas winning 7-6 in the No. 1 flight.
- Miroslav Cvjetan and Pham set the singles tone with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 flight for the former and a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 6 flight for the latter.
- Juan-Louis Antwerpen defeated Cabezas by retirement in the No. 2 flight, but Oscar Sohl clinched the match for the Mocs with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph in the No. 3 flight.
- FSC ended the day with two more wins as Martin had a 6-1, 7-6 decision in the No. 5 flight and Hertweck benefited from a 7-6, 6-1 scoreline in the No. 1 flight.
